Import Methods
Different ways to import your trading data

API Connection (Recommended)

Connect directly to your broker's API for automatic, real-time trade synchronization.

  • Automatic trade updates
  • Real-time synchronization
  • Most accurate data
  • Requires API key from broker

CSV File Upload

Download trade history from your broker and upload the CSV file to Ascentia.

  • Works with all brokers
  • One-time or periodic imports
  • Manual process
  • Good for historical data

Manual Entry

For brokers without API or CSV export, you can manually enter trades one at a time.

Setting Up API Connection
Step-by-step guide to connecting your broker via API

Step 1: Get API Credentials

Log into your broker's website and navigate to API settings. Generate a new API key with read-only permissions for trade history.

Step 2: Connect in Ascentia

In Ascentia, go to Settings → Integrations → Add Broker Connection. Select your broker from the list and enter your API credentials.

Step 3: Configure Import Settings

Choose what data to import:

  • Date range for historical trades
  • Account(s) to sync
  • Asset types to include
  • Sync frequency (real-time, hourly, daily)

Step 4: Initial Import

Click "Start Import" to begin the initial synchronization. This may take several minutes depending on your trade history size.

Step 5: Verify Data

Review imported trades to ensure accuracy. Check that entry/exit prices, dates, and P&L match your broker statements.

Importing via CSV
How to import trades using CSV files from your broker

Step 1: Export from Broker

Log into your broker and navigate to trade history or account statements. Export your trades as a CSV file.

Step 2: Prepare CSV File

Ensure your CSV includes these required fields:

  • Symbol/Ticker
  • Entry Date & Time
  • Exit Date & Time
  • Entry Price
  • Exit Price
  • Quantity/Size
  • Direction (Long/Short)
  • P&L

Step 3: Upload to Ascentia

In your Trading Journal, click "Import" → "Upload CSV". Select your file and choose your broker from the dropdown (this helps with field mapping).

Step 4: Map Fields

Ascentia will attempt to automatically map CSV columns to trade fields. Review and adjust mappings if needed.

Step 5: Review and Import

Preview the trades to be imported. Click "Import Trades" to add them to your journal. Duplicate trades are automatically detected and skipped.

Import Settings and Options
Customize how trades are imported

Duplicate Detection

Ascentia automatically detects duplicate trades based on symbol, entry time, and size. You can choose to skip, update, or create duplicates.

Auto-Tagging

Set up rules to automatically tag imported trades based on criteria like symbol, P&L, or time of day.

Commission Handling

Choose whether to include broker commissions in P&L calculations. Some brokers include this in their export, others don't.

Time Zone Conversion

Ascentia can automatically convert trade times to your local time zone if your broker exports in a different time zone.

Troubleshooting
Common import issues and solutions

API Connection Failed

Verify your API credentials are correct and have the necessary permissions. Check that your broker account is active and API access is enabled.

CSV Import Errors

Ensure your CSV is properly formatted with headers in the first row. Check for special characters or formatting issues in the data.

Missing Trades

Check your date range settings and account filters. Some brokers separate different account types or asset classes in their exports.

Incorrect P&L

Verify commission settings and ensure your broker's P&L calculation method matches Ascentia's. You may need to adjust commission handling in import settings.
